Human-Centered Analytics Lab
About the Human-Centered Analytics Lab
The Human-Centered Analytics Lab (HAL) is a uniquely interdisciplinary research lab that examines the interaction of people with technology to understand the human condition in our increasingly digital world. We view analytics as the translational arm of data science — a powerful tool for explaining, predicting, and ultimately enhancing our understanding of human behavior in organizational and technological contexts.
Unlike traditional academic silos, HAL integrates computer science, statistics, psychology, and information systems into a cohesive approach. Our "T-shaped" structure features broad theoretical foundations with deep methodological expertise. We develop and apply rigorous analytical methods to frame, evaluate, and solve real-world problems.
Led by two endowed chairs in analytics from different specializations, with contributions from a professor of business ethics, HAL transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. Our business school foundation ensures research remains pragmatic and applicable, treating the world as our laboratory while maintaining methodological rigor.
